Spanish legislation

Spain is one of the countries where assisted reproduction has advanced the most in recent years. Under the umbrella of less restrictive normative with patients and a great array of techniques not allowed in other countries (specifically in Europe), in the last 10 or 15 years this has facilitated that the clinics and professionals have been able to advance in the research and development of new techniques that have increased success rates.

Some of the advantages of the Spanish regulation:

Use of the donation of eggs in fertility treatment, as well as genetic pre-implantation diagnosis.

Donor anonymity. The donor registry undergoes the strictest confidentiality conditions. The identity of the semen and egg donors is preserved.

Every woman over 18 years of age and with full capacity to act can be a receptor or user of the techniques planned in the Law, with independence of their civil status or sexual orientation. Thus, singles women, heterosexual and homosexual married couples, common-law heterosexual married couples can all access assisted reproduction techniques.

Egg freezing for fertility preservation.

There is no legal age limit for a woman to undergo assisted reproduction techniques although reproduction clinics have reached the consensus of fixing the limit at 50 years for the woman.

These normative advantages have meant that there has been significant advances in the technology and techniques, which has generated a very developed health sub-sector in Spain. A lot of effort has been invested in research which has given Spain the highest success rates in Europe.
